Amber safari in the dark - Thyborøn

Amber hunting in the dark Do you know the feeling of coming back from the beach with your pockets full of yellow stones? If you know the feeling of having unsuccessfully been amber hunting, then come along on our guided amber tour, where we will teach you to find and recognize the amber with a special UV-light. In the dark, with the UV-light it is a completely different experience to search for the amber. The guide will give you an introduction to the amber and then take you to the beach , where we, under the right circumstances, will show you how to use the light and recognize the amber. Amber workshop

Your own amber jewellery Make your own jewellery with the 30 to 50 million year old gemstones of the North Sea. In the creative workshop you can get help from our experienced "mermaids" to tie and compose a necklace, an armband, or maybe a pair of cool earrings. Choose a piece of amber, polish until you get the look you desire, and finally make it into the the piece of jewellery you want. As a new thing we also arrange the amber workshop during the summer months. Every Tuesday from 10.30 AM to 12.30 PM you can participate in this activity at the aquarium. Excluding week 28 and 29. You can keep undated on changes in our event calendar. Dolphin safari

A dolphin safari in the Limfjord In the canal of Thyborøn, where shoals of herring and other fish are a good food source for them, there are very good chances of seeing dolphins with your own eyes. Join us on a boat safari and experience the unique nature by the mouth of the Limfjord. Our experienced guide sails into Thyborøn Canal, where the North Sea meets the Limfjord. The canal is the accessway into the fjord, which many fish seek - and the dolphins follow. The dolphins can be identified by their fins, and the identified animals in the Thyborøn herd are Chewbacca, Tall Fin and a calf, which was named Leia in May 2021. The dolphins are just some of the animals living in this part of the Limfjord. A large colony of seals and a rich bird life is also part of daily life on the western sand banks. Come along and experience a very special nature area and the unique wildlife. The behaviour of dolphins In recent years we have gotten to know the dolphins' behaviour better - and they have also gotten to know our safari boats. Event though you should never set your clock based on a dolphins whereabouts, there is often a pattern in, when they show up in the canal. Some days we are lucky and they are nearby from morning until evening. Other days we see them only sporadically. And on a few days it happens, that we don't see them at all. We see dolphins on average on 90% of our dolphin safaris - that is a pretty wild thing to be able to say in Denmark. The chances to see dolphins in Thyborøn Canal are best at the end of or early in the day. That is why we have decided to offer the tours, when we do. We want to increase your chances of experiencing the dolphins. If you want a wonderful boat trip during the day, we recommend a seal safari instead. With as large of a colony of seals as we have in the area, the likelihood of seeing seals is the same in the morning as it is in the evening. Through five years we have seen seals on 100% of our seal safaris. We do not give a dolphin guarantee on this tour. The animals are wild animals, who decide themselves when and where they want to be here. We do however guarantee a lovely sail filled with lots of stories about the animals and the area in general. Feeding the fish

Lend a hand when we feed the sharks! You have the opportunity to join in when we feed the fish in our touch pools. Our fishmaster finds the feed which is going to be used, and you can help giving it to sharks, rays and flatfish in selected aquariums. You can lend a hand feeding our fish every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday all year round. Dispensing of feed: You will get one cup of feed from our fishkeeper. You can give this to fish and sharks in certain pools

From fjord to plate

Explore the Fjord's Pantry Join the nature guide to explore the Limfjord. Hop in a pair of our waders and go hunting in the water, where you may be lucky to catch shrimp, crabs and fish in ruses and creels. There are wild, delicious herbs to be found on the beach and seaweed to pull up from the water. We light up the fire pit so we can bake bread with delicious salty flakes of freshly picked seaweed! We do tastings of the shellfish and fish we might catch. The time of year, and to some extent the weather on the day, is decisive for what we can catch and pick. All this takes place in and at our beautiful beach pavilion, which is located in the most beautiful surroundings, right next to the water. Oyster safari

Limfjord’s oysters – gather some of the world's best produce Dressed in waders we go oyster searching in the delicate larder of the Limfjord. Hear about the special life of the Limfjord’s oyster and where the best locations are around the western part of the Limfjord. You learn how to catch them, how they are opened, and how you can prepare them. After the search for oysters we taste them uncooked, cook som of them on the barbecue, and drink a glass of sparkling wine. Now also with Danish whisky. Now you can try the oysters with an amazing, Danish-produced whisky. We are lucky to cooperate with the enthusiastic people, who are behind Stauning Whisky. Therefore, you can now taste, how the golden drops gives a completely new and different dimension of flavour to the delicate oysters. Already now, you can try it for yourself on our oyster safaris. Seal safari

Seal safari by boat in the Limfjord Join us on a seal safari by boat and experience the unique nature by the mouth of the Limfjord. Our experienced guide sails through the labyrinth of channels between the sand banks and takes you close to the seals. On the trip we often see two species of seals, and there are good chances to see Denmark’s largest carnivore – the large grey seal. The male can weigh up to 300 kg. He rules out here and he’s afraid of nothing, not even the visitors in the boats. Seals are curious and often swim around the boat to see, who has come to visit. The guide talks about the seals and the rich animal life in the Limfjord. On the way back the guide might also tell about the tough life of the fishermen by the North Sea. The fishkeepers tractor tour

Come out with our tractor bus and catch animals for the aquarium Have you often wondered which animals are hiding just below the water’s surface? Join the fishkeeper on tour and find out. Our great surrounding nature is full of interesting animals and exciting fish. The fishkeeper will take you to our favourite place to catch fish and show you, how you can catch the little creatures and fish. Lend us a helping hand with catching flatfish, crabs and shrimp for the aquarium. We will bring the necessary equipment. Tour de Thyborøn

Get a guided tour of one of Denmark's busiest fishing ports Join us on an exciting tour on the busy dock and through the town. The tour takes place by tractor bus. Thyborøn is relatively young town with a history dating back about 120 years. The port and the fishing industry is Thyborøn's largest place of work. Here equipment for the industry is produced, large repairs are conducted at Denmark's third largest floating dock and tons of fresh fish are caught and sold every day.
